Untreed Reads Adds Five New Retailers In Four Countries

Untreed Reads is pleased to announce five new retail partners that further expand our global reach, all of which are powered through our relationship with Overdrive:

BooksAMillion.com (USA): One of the nation’s largest print retailers launched an ebook store within their site a few months back. They’re a little slow to update, but from what we can see better than half of our catalog is now available there. We’ve been assured that as they catch up on their backlog, titles will post in a more timely fashion.

infibeam (Delhi, India): Very similar to Amazon, with their own ereader device.

LibraryBIN (USA): This retailer is a really fantastic concept. With each sale, the purchaser can choose a library of their choice to receive a percentage of the sale. It’s a great way to help support your local library system. The site is powered by Overdrive, a favorite among librarians looking to purchase ebooks for their systems.

Papataka (Indonesia): Indonesia’s first big ebook retailer.

Papyless (Japan): Konnichiwa! Untreed Reads hits one of the biggest ebook markets in the entire world.

These five retailers bring the current total number to an amazing **44**. We’re not done! Look for more announcements in the weeks ahead.

Unless other contractual obligations exist, our entire catalog will be available from all of these vendors. A complete list of the 44 retailers can be found on the right side of our website.

New Kobo/RH Pairing Brings Ebooks To Weary Hotel Guests

Now THIS is ingenious. According to Publisher’s Weekly, Random House and Kobo will be providing ebook readers and titles to guests at the popular Fairmont Hotel chain:

Random House, Kobo, and Fairmont Hotels are coming to the rescue of travelers who forgot to bring a book on vacation. Ten Fairmont hotels in the U.S. and Canada will have Kobo eReaders available for guests staying on Fairmont Gold, an exclusive “hotel within the hotel” that offers special perks. The Kobo eReaders will be loaded with new and bestselling Random House titles by Bret Easton Ellis, Sophie Kinsella, Alexander McCall Smith, and other authors. Upon returning the Kobo eReader, guests will receive an offer for $2 off select Random House titles redeemable at www.kobobooks.com/randomhouse.

Sounds like a really great win-win situation for everyone involved. Did we mention that all the titles from Untreed Reads are available via Kobo? Hopefully we’ll see more publishers (like us) on these devices in the future.

Untreed Reads Titles Arrive On The enTourage eDGe

We had the opportunity to play with the new enTourage eDGe reader at BookExpoAmerica, and we were absolutely amazed. With a 9.7 inch screen, there isn’t much this reader CAN’T do. It has a dual screen, with E-Ink on one side and a LCD tablet screen on the other. You can drag stuff between screens, take notes, record audio…the list is pretty endless and it completely shatters anything the Kindle or nook is capable of.

We’re thrilled to announce that as of today, all of the titles from Untreed Reads can be found in the enTourage eDGe ebookstore. We’re glad to be available on one of the most cutting-edge devices we’ve ever seen, and we look forward to seeing more eDGe’s pop up in people’s hands everywhere.

iBooks Comes To The iPhone…With PDF

There was a lot of great news to come out of yesterday’s WWDC conference from Apple, including the gorgeous new iPhone that our Editor-In-Chief is currently drooling over.

One of the biggest and best improvements for ebook readers everywhere is that iPhone 4.0 will give support for the iBookstore, thus opening it up to more than just iPad users. Also, Apple intends to allow PDF as a download option. This alone is a huge step in a market of ereaders that has truly limited itself. PDF renders very poorly on most devices, but does quite well on the iPhone, and especially well on the iPad.

Also interesting to note are the estimated sales figures from the iPad’s iBookstore for its first two months. Sources indicate that during that timeframe, Apple sold approximately 22% of all ebooks sold during that period, to the tune of about 5 million copies. That’s pretty impressive considering Apple sold close to 2 million iPads during that time. Then again, if you stop and think about the fact that 5 million copies only represents 22% of the ebook market, that’s even more impressive.

A game changer for ebooks? It sure looks that way. Of course, we couldn’t let this story go without a shameless plug that most of our titles are currently available in the iBookstore, with more to come.
